Graston Technique In Salt Lake City
What Is the Graston Technique?
In Salt Lake City
The Graston Technique is a form of instrument-assisted soft tissue therapy that uses specialized stainless steel tools to work on muscles, tendons, ligaments, and other soft tissues. At Canada Chiropractic, we may use this technique to address areas of tightness, restricted movement, or scar tissue that may be contributing to discomfort.
Dr. Canada sometimes jokingly refers to it as the “high-priced butter knife treatment” because the smooth stainless steel instruments are gently moved across the skin during treatment.
During treatment, the instruments are gently moved over targeted areas of the skin and soft tissue. This allows the provider to work on areas of tightness or restriction that may be affecting comfortable movement. Treatment can be adapted to the specific area being addressed and to the patient’s comfort level.
Accelerate Healing With The Graston Technique
The Graston Technique may be incorporated into a treatment plan to help address soft tissue restrictions and support comfortable movement. Depending on the patient’s needs, it may be used as part of care for sports-related injuries, muscle or tendon problems, scar tissue, plantar fasciitis, shoulder discomfort, and other musculoskeletal concerns.
If you’re interested in a non-invasive approach to soft tissue care, ask us whether the Graston Technique may be an appropriate part of your personalized chiropractic treatment plan.

How Is Graston Technique Different From Massage?
Both Graston Technique and massage therapy work with muscles and other soft tissues, but they use different approaches. Massage therapy primarily uses hands-on techniques, while the Graston Technique uses specialized stainless steel instruments to work on targeted areas of soft tissue.
Depending on your symptoms and treatment goals, one approach may be used on its own or both may be incorporated into your care plan. Dr. Canada can recommend an approach based on your individual needs.
Conditions That May Benefit From Graston Technique:
Achilles Tendinopathy
Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
Adhesive Capsulitis
IT Band Syndrome
Plantar Fasciitis
Low Back Strain
What to Expect During Graston Technique Treatment
Before treatment, your provider will discuss your symptoms and evaluate the area causing discomfort or restricted movement. If the Graston Technique is appropriate for your needs, a specialized stainless steel instrument is gently moved across the skin over the targeted muscles and soft tissues.
You may feel pressure or a scraping sensation as the instrument moves across the treatment area. The amount of pressure can be adjusted based on the area being treated and your comfort level, so let your provider know if anything feels uncomfortable.
Graston Technique may be used on its own or combined with other forms of chiropractic care, movement, or rehabilitation exercises as part of an individualized treatment plan.
